DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
Second year uni, semester two- Investigated drape and working on the mannequin stand which was taken further to create pattern pieces from a three dimensional form. Understanding tailoring on a deeper level, I based my concept INTERNAL > EXTERNAL on the focus to bringing all the complex and technical hand sewing construction details found inside a tailored jacket - to the outside. I was grasped to the time consuming techniques that have such beautiful elements to each individual stitch and found it frustrating that they were all hidden away. With all my curiosities and personal interpretations to the tailored jacket, I formed a conceptual connection which relates to human emotions. Taking this idea further, I symbolised each colour thread to reflect a humans emotion. Building layers of embroidered stitching reflects a deeper level of peoples tendencies to mask their emotions.
My initial inspiration for such aesthetic branched from Viktor & Rolf's couture fall collection 2016.
