[FREAK] 'To Kat: From Katos' ✨⭐️👉🏽 Freak is very personal to me. It is my collection of nightmares, thoughts, voices and real life situations that have influenced my life with a negative impact which i tend to mask with positivity. I have created story boards on each leathered panel out of hand made latex and embiordery threads creating characters and figures which symbolise experiences or emotions i have faced. I find it so darn hard to articulate about my feelings so i have created THIS collection; FREAK dedicated to myself, in a way which i can express my pain without saying it out LOUD and knowing that it is okay to not be okay. I find so much comfort through colour and art and I feel so much vibration and passion through sound! OTHER THAN THAT, enjoy - admire - and god damn absorb yourself within the colour, texture and aesthetic which i have smashed from my brain and produced with my very own hands.
THIS IS FREAK. 🌈😺✂️😅💥

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
The distorted child related figures were inspired by a experiment I did earlier in the project where I used baking moulds to create three-dimensional forms in EVA foam seen in the illustration from my folio.
Generating skills in creating latex material from liquid, I was grasped by the texture and properties of the end result. Being able to cut and sew directly into the latex, I further explored what kind of finishes could be built within the experiments. This led me to use o-ring binders that I found in my arts and crafts box at home, that further concluded the solution to how I would connect all my seams seen in the collection.

Outsider Art was a key inspiration that linked my connection to my work. Looking for a form of expression through elements other then words; colour, sound and art were the factors that I focused on in [FREAK]. Some artists that I developed researched on were names like Christian Mengele and Stephen Homewood. I pulled silhouettes and distorted shapes to form my personalised characters that told stories in each leather panel seen in each garment.
Below are some trials of experimentations I created with latex and embroidery to get a clear guide on how I wanted to reflect my story telling.
